Being more than a little concerned that the over heating of the engine might have caused excesive wear or even damage on the way in I made
the decision to tear it down for a visual inspection and a good clean up. Another reason for the clean up was the length of time it had been
sitting and a comment the lady who sold me the car said when I picked it up "my husband told me that I would drive the wheels off of a car with out noticing"
and after seeing the seeds germinating under the carberator I believe it. Now after sitting there for 12 years I can
believe that the seeds were growing but my question is how did they get there in the first place? I wish that I had taken pictures
of the engine tear down, clean up, and reassembly but I didn't. Had no idea that I was going to be creating a web page at the time and would
be wanting such things. Anyway long story short the engine (after being run hot for the trip in) was surprisingly clean on the inside and after
a few checks was all within tolerences. A few pieces (like the intake manifold) got hot tanked and checked for wear and cracks, painted and put
back together. Here are a few pictures of the engine after being cleaned and painted.
During the time that I was working on the engine I knew that I had to find a different frame and had to dispose of the old one. I rented a car dolly from
u-haul and carted it off to the scrap iron dealer and got enough money back to pay for the rental. Below is a pic of the truck frame being towed away by
my trusty old Oldsmobile Omega. After a few weeks of keeping my eyes and ears open I came across a 1975 chevy half ton with a blown 6 cylinder engine. It
was in pretty bad shape but all I wanted was the frame and it looked to be undamaged. It had never been in a serious accident (there was no evidence
front or rear end collision and wasn't twisted) and had all the things I was looking for except power steering. Brian an I headed out to Regina Beach in the morning to pick
it up the truck and towed it into Regina with (you guessed it) my trusty old Omega. Once at home we pushed it into the garage and I started to tear it down
and lucky for me I worked with a guy that wanted alot of the parts. He had a 1978 chevy half ton (that was in considerably worse shape) and mainly wanted the
box but he took a alot of other odds and ends. I told him to come and get them free of charge and that all I asked for in return was that he cart the rest off
to the wrecker. He considered that a great deal and on one saturday afternoon we hauled the cab, fenders, engine, and his old box to the scrap metal dealer
and got enough in return to fill his tank. Unfortunately once again I am without pictures of the 1975 truck or its tear down. To continue please click on the Next link at the left.
